DeSoto ICE Release Timeline
Begin an immigration custody timeline with the last verified DeSoto Parish event. Add the receiving agency, ODLS check time, facility result, and later ICE confirmation separately. This keeps a parish transfer from being mistaken for a later immigration release.
DeSoto ICE Status Notes
Save the A-number, agency, facility, and update time without sharing more personal detail than the check requires. If the person cannot be found, do not substitute rumor or a stale roster capture. Return to the last verified agency and ask where its custody ended.
ICE Release Paths from DeSoto
The DeSoto Parish Sheriff’s Office does not identify its detention center as an ICE detention facility on the official corrections page. Still, an immigration detainer can affect a person held locally. A detainer is a request or hold from immigration authorities. When the person leaves DPSO and enters ICE custody, that is a transfer, not release to the community.
ICE custody can later end through release under conditions, a change ordered in immigration proceedings, removal from the United States, or another agency event. Public tools do not always display the legal detail behind the outcome. The ICE locator addresses current detention location. DPSO’s release log addresses departure from the parish jail. Immigration case records and Enforcement and Removal Operations may be needed for the rest.
| Observed event | Correct reading | Next source |
|---|---|---|
| Name leaves DPSO roster | Local listing ended; destination unknown | DPSO release or transfer log |
| DPSO records ICE transfer | Immigration custody continued | ICE detainee locator |
| ICE locator shows a facility | ICE reports current detention | Facility and ICE ERO |
| No ICE result | Status unresolved, not proof of release | Verify identity, wait for processing, contact ERO |
Search ICE Detainee Records
Use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. The strongest search uses the person’s A-number and country of birth. An A-number is the immigration file number. ODLS also offers a biographical search using name and other identifying details. Enter the name as it appears in immigration records, including both surnames where applicable.
- Obtain the A-number and country of birth if available.
- Search ODLS with those fields before relying on a name-only query.
- Try the biographical route with exact and reasonable name forms.
- Match all displayed details before treating a result as the same person.
- Contact ICE ERO when processing delay or record limits leave the status unclear.
Some people are excluded from the public locator, and a recent transfer may not appear at once. Age and processing rules can also limit results. Do not state that ICE released someone merely because the search returns nothing. Recheck the transfer record and use the ICE detention information channels for the responsible office.
Note: ODLS is a current-location tool with limits, not a complete public archive of every ICE release event.
Confirm DeSoto ICE Transfers
Begin with DPSO when the last verified custody was at DeSoto Parish Detention Center. Call the jail with the full name, date of birth, booking date, and inmate ID if known. Ask whether the departure was a community release or transfer. If staff cannot provide the exact event, request the release log and receiving-agency field in writing.
The DPSO Custodian of Records accepts the signed public-record request form by mail at 205 Franklin Street, Mansfield, LA 71052, or by email at publicrecords@dpso.org. Describe the exact fields sought: departure date and time, release or transfer code, releasing authority, and receiving agency or destination if maintained and public. Do not ask DPSO to certify later ICE custody. Its record stops at the local event.
ICE Release Record Fields
No single public screen supplies a full immigration release record. Build the event from the records that exist, while keeping each agency’s part separate.
| Record field | Agency and meaning |
|---|---|
| DPSO departure date and time | When the parish facility ended its custody |
| DPSO receiving agency | Whether ICE or another authority took custody |
| A-number | Immigration identity control |
| ODLS location | ICE’s current public detention location, when displayed |
| Immigration order or docket event | Legal action in the immigration matter |
| ICE release information | Person-specific agency confirmation where available |
A release date from the parish log cannot be relabeled as the ICE release date. Likewise, an ICE no-result does not rewrite the sheriff’s transfer entry. Preserve source names and check times. When records conflict, report the conflict and ask the office that maintains each field.
DeSoto ICE Notification Options
DPSO links the ICE Victim Notification Program. That service concerns qualifying immigration-custody notifications. It is not the general detainee locator. Registration rules and eligible events come from ICE, and a notification should be checked against the current agency record.
Do not confuse ICE VNP with Louisiana LAVNS. LAVNS is the Louisiana Automated Victim Notification System accessed through VINELink and covers participating Louisiana agencies. ICE VNP is federal and immigration-specific. A person can generate a DPSO or LAVNS custody change when leaving the parish jail and then require ICE channels for later information.
- ICE VNP
- An ICE notification program for qualifying immigration-custody events.
- LAVNS
- Louisiana’s custody notification service for participating state and local agencies.
- ODLS
- ICE’s public online detainee-location search.
- ERO
- ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, the operational contact when locator searches do not resolve a case.
ICE Release Versus Removal
“Release” and “removal” are not interchangeable. Release may mean the person leaves detention under the applicable immigration process or conditions. Removal means departure from the United States under immigration authority. A transfer can occur between facilities while detention continues. Public wording should follow the agency record exactly.
A court or immigration docket can explain an order, but operational movement may follow later. Use the order for legal authority and ICE for the actual custody status. If the family knows that a hearing occurred, that fact alone does not establish where the person is now. Check ODLS and ERO rather than predicting the result.
Federal Custody Before ICE
ICE custody may follow a federal prison term. A BOP record can show `RELEASED` because Bureau of Prisons custody ended, even if ICE took the person next. Read that BOP label only as an agency-specific event. Then search ODLS with the A-number and country of birth.
The same principle applies after a local hold. A person can leave DPSO for USMS and later enter BOP or ICE. The parish roster will not display that full chain. The federal BOP release page explains how a BOP record differs from USMS pretrial custody and a later immigration transfer.
Note: A past date in one agency’s locator does not prove the person had no next custodial placement.
ICE Identity and Search Limits
Identity control is crucial. Spellings, compound surnames, transliteration, and date formats can lead to a false no-match. An A-number is stronger than a name alone. Compare country of birth and all other available details, and never merge two people because their names are alike.
ODLS can omit categories of people and may lag after intake or movement. If a valid A-number produces no result, verify each digit and the country entry. Search again after a reasonable update interval. Then contact the ICE office named in detention resources. Give only the facts needed to identify the person and state the last verified agency and date.
Request DeSoto Transfer Records
Louisiana’s public-record process can provide the local part of the event, subject to exemptions. Request an existing log or field rather than asking DPSO to research immigration status. A focused request names the person, approximate booking and departure dates, booking number, and the specific release or transfer entries sought.
If the response identifies ICE, move to federal channels. If it identifies another parish, state corrections, or USMS, use that system instead. A withheld destination should not be guessed. Ask for the legal basis and any separable public portion. For a general comparison of local, state, federal, and ICE release searches, see the DeSoto Parish released-inmate records hub.
After an ICE Detainee Release
Custody release does not necessarily end the immigration case. Check the person’s official documents and court information for the next required step. Public locators are built to locate detention, not to give personal legal advice or a full case history.
When verifying for reconnection or personal knowledge, report only the confirmed event. “DPSO transferred the person to ICE,” “ODLS listed the person at a facility on the check date,” and “ICE later confirmed release” are distinct statements. Keeping them separate prevents an unsupported claim that the person returned to DeSoto Parish or remained in detention.
